All about the cold

So, this weekend I called Nicholas a ‘Northman’. Told him I was kind of proud of it as in this regard he is somewhat taking after me. And what does he do to earn this title? He likes to go around in the Michigan winter claiming he doesn’t need his coat. Often, we’ll make him take it with him, but then he never really puts it on, he just drapes the hood over the top of his head and lets the coat hang down his back. Even yesterday, when going to church, it was below 5º, wind chill around -20º, I’m sure sure he would have preferred to leave his coat in the car.

When I picked him up from karate this evening, it was a balmy 8º. I asked him half jokingly where his coat was, and I was surprised when he actually said he left it inside and we had to go back and get it. I said, “I’m surprised you even have it.”

To which he responded that he had meant to leave it in the car but he just forgot. And did he put it on as we walked back out? Nope. Said he didn’t need it. I said, “Dude, it’s like 8º.”

He replied, “Feels more like 30º to me.” As if 30º is some heat wave or something.

  1. Wow, that’s impressive. I must say that I’ve acclimatized a little to the cold but walking around without a coat in 8 degree weather? The child is insane. But hey, it’s been 40 here for while and it feels like the greatest weather ever. Mom said it was 70 on the 9th down in the great CV. 70! That’s crazy. I don’t even think I remember what 70 degrees is like anymore.
