The Struggle Over Water

So here’s the scene, Saturday afternoon, I’m on the ladder cleaning the gutters, Becky is weeding in the front, the kids were in the back in their little swimming pool. All of the sudden Nick comes flying around the corner onto the front porch, Ashlee in hot pursuit, a furious look on her face. Nick gets to the front door and turns around, he and Ashlee clasp hands in a bitter confrontation. Nick trying to hold his sister off, Ashlee trying desperately to get to Nick. Becky asks Nick what’s wrong and he says, “Ashlee is trying to attack me!” We all look to Ashlee for an explanation, and she blurts out, “He keeps complaining that the water’s too cold and I DON’T WANT TO HEAR IT!”

I guess they called me on a mission…

SO for anyone that maybe had a shoddy phone connection, didn’t hear right, or for whatever reason forgot, I am indeed going to Portland, Oregon for my mission. The Oregon Portland Mission to be exact. So yeah, I’m pretty excited and stuff but I have to wait until September 17 to report. Not too long, not too short, but juuuuust right. So yeah, from the land where it never rains to the land where it never stops raining. Should be fun! And as a little treat to all you alls, here’s the picture I put on my application.

The missing photos

This was captured at the Cleveland Zoo. Yeah, I don’t know what’s going on here. Maybe I had to go to the bathroom and couldn’t walk the 15 meters behind me. Maybe I got lost and couldn’t figure out where the rest of the family was. And just maybe it’s a case of the jock itch via poison oak.

(And no… I don’t have a hump… that’s the backpack thingy geez!)

1 Week Down

Well, the first week of summer vacation is in the books. Somewhat ‘normal’ from my end, but I’m sure it seemed longer than usual for Becky! Here’s a couple of interesting tidbits that occurred at the beginning of the week.

Ashlee on what she’s looking forward to now that school is out:
“… I’m glad there’s no school anymore, now I can sleep in EVERYDAY!”

Are you kidding me? She’s 6! When did 6 year old kids start worrying about sleeping in? Seriously, she’s 6 going on 16. Becky usually has to drag her out of bed in the morning in just enough time to make it out the door for school. We’re all in trouble. Just be ready grandparents, we may have to ship her out to one of you for the summer when she gets to be too much for us! (jk little princess)

So we’re watching the last round of the US Open (golf… I know… I think I’ve reached that age?). Tiger, Westwood, Mediate were battling it out down the stretch. I flipped to TNT, which was showing Jurassic Park or something (one of the kids favorites) during a commercial, and Nick jumped all over me for switching the channels. Wow, didn’t know the kid would rather watch golf over dinosaurs. Just a little FYI for future reference. It’s scary to think of Nick on the golf course. He’s got enough losing issues playing his DS or Wii or laptop. He regularly goes all Happy Gilmore when things aren’t going his way. Yeah… I think golf is the perfect sport for him!

It should be an interesting summer.

Howdy from the Great White North (Rim)

Hey everyone, just posting a shout out to y’all. Things here at Jacob Lake are going pretty good, especially when it snows like it did yesterday and we get mobbed by hundreds of bikers who would like a place to stay and all we can offer is the lobby. For the most part its been a fun experience for me as a waiter, especially when you play with the minds of little kids by sharing with them that the ugly egg on the top of the salisbury steak is the eggs of all the little ugly ducklings that never hatched, or telling them that the Kaibab jagerschnitzel is in fact the famed Kaibab Squirrel, and then patiently explaining that jagerschnitzel is German for squirrel (and yes Andrea, I know that isn’t true).
Probably the most exciting occurrence was yesterday when I was running to the basketball courts and then tripped going downhill and tore my knee up a good one. They were gonna try and fix it here until they cleared the blood a little bit and were able to see my patella so they ran me to Kanab hospital and I had to get me some more stitches and sutures as well as some antbiotics to prevent infection. So yeah, that was a pretty fun experience. Kinda like the time that I got hecka burnt at Lake Powell…….
